Suspension & Steering: an overview
Potholes, speed bumps and rough roads take a toll on suspension and steering. Worn components affect comfort, but they also affect braking, tyre wear and how the vehicle responds in an emergency.
Problems we can help with
- Knocking or clunking over bumps
- Car pulling to one side
- Uneven or rapid tyre wear
- Vehicle bouncing or feeling unstable
- Steering feels loose or heavy
- Clicking when turning (possible CV joint wear)
What we do
We inspect the suspension and steering with the vehicle raised and on the road: shock absorbers, springs, control-arm bushes, ball joints, stabiliser links, tie-rod ends, the steering rack and CV joints and boots.
Worn parts are identified, explained and quoted. After repairs, we road-test the vehicle and advise whether a wheel alignment is recommended.

Suspension & Steering: frequently asked questions
What causes a knocking noise over bumps?
Common causes include worn stabiliser links, bushes, ball joints or shock-absorber mounts. An inspection with the car raised usually identifies the source.
Do I need to replace shock absorbers in pairs?
It is generally recommended to replace shock absorbers in pairs on the same axle so the vehicle handles evenly.
