Which Demio do you have?
Demios on Kenyan roads are mostly Japanese imports. Older models (around 2007–2014) typically use petrol engines around 1.3–1.5 litres, with automatic versions including conventional automatic and CVT gearboxes. The later SkyActiv generation (from around 2014) uses newer petrol engines and, on some versions, a 1.5 diesel, usually with a conventional automatic gearbox.
Knowing the exact engine and gearbox matters, because oil, fluid and parts specifications differ.
Common service requirements
- Engine oil and filter at the correct interval and specification
- Air filter — more often on dusty roads — and cabin filter
- Spark plugs at the scheduled mileage
- Gearbox fluid checks and changes with the correct fluid for your gearbox
- Brake fluid and coolant at the recommended intervals
- Tyre rotation and pressure checks
Issues owners commonly report
- Rough idle or misfires, often from ignition coils, spark plugs or a dirty throttle body
- Suspension knocks from anti-roll bar links, bushes or shock absorbers
- Engine mounts wearing, causing vibration when idling or pulling away
- Brake pad and disc wear, particularly with a lot of town driving
- Battery and charging issues on cars that are used only for short trips
These depend on age, mileage and how the car has been maintained.
Diagnostics
A check engine light, a rough idle or hesitant acceleration should be diagnosed with a scan tool and testing rather than by replacing parts. We check fault codes and live data, ignition and fuel delivery, and inspect mounts and suspension where vibration is the complaint.
Keeping your Demio healthy
- Service on time and with the right fluids — especially for the gearbox.
- Replace worn spark plugs and filters before they cause problems.
- Have new noises or vibrations checked early.
- Book a health check before long trips or if the service history is unknown.
