Car AC Gas Recharge (Regas): an overview
If your air conditioning blows air that is not as cold as it used to be, the system may be low on refrigerant. A regas restores the correct charge — but refrigerant does not get "used up", so a low system usually means a leak somewhere.
We check before we recharge, so you are not paying for gas that escapes again within weeks.
Problems we can help with
- AC blowing warm or only slightly cool air
- Cooling fades after a few minutes
- AC takes a long time to cool the cabin
- Hissing noise from the dashboard
- AC has not been used or serviced for a long time
What we do
We start by checking how the system is performing and whether the compressor engages. We then check the system for leaks and look at the condenser, hoses and connections.
If there is no significant leak, we recharge the system with the type and quantity of refrigerant your vehicle specifies and check the outlet temperature. If we find a leak or a faulty component, we explain it and give you an estimate to repair it first, because a recharge alone would not last.

Car AC Gas Recharge (Regas): frequently asked questions
How often does a car AC need regassing?
A sealed system should not need regular top-ups. If cooling has dropped noticeably, it usually means refrigerant has leaked, and the leak should be found and fixed.
Can a regas fix every AC problem?
No. Weak cooling can also come from a failing compressor, a blocked condenser, an electrical fault or a blend-door problem. That is why we check the system first.
Why does my AC smell bad?
Musty smells usually come from bacteria in the evaporator or a dirty cabin filter. Replacing the cabin filter and cleaning the system usually helps.
