Key Coding / Programming: an overview
The immobiliser only allows the engine to start when it recognises a key it has been coded to accept. Sometimes the problem is not the key itself but the pairing between the key, the immobiliser and the engine control unit — for example after certain repairs or part replacements.
Problems we can help with
- Engine cranks but will not start with a known key
- Immobiliser warning light on
- Keys stopped working after a repair or battery change
- Control unit replaced and keys not recognised
What we do
We diagnose whether the fault lies in the key, the immobiliser or the communication between them. Where coding is required, we carry out the appropriate procedure for your vehicle and test all keys afterwards. We explain the findings and give you an estimate before starting.
Our process
- 1
Vehicle inspection
We look at the vehicle with you and note the symptoms or damage.
- 2
Key & system check
We confirm your key type and what your vehicle requires.
- 3
Estimate
You receive an itemised estimate on your phone.
- 4
Customer approval
Nothing starts until you approve — online, in one tap.
- 5
Key made & programmed
The key is supplied, cut where needed and programmed.
- 6
Quality check
Every key is tested with the vehicle before handover.

Key Coding / Programming: frequently asked questions
Why won't my car start even though the key turns?
If the engine cranks but does not start and the immobiliser light is on, the car may not be recognising the key. Diagnostics can confirm whether it is a key, immobiliser or other fault.
