Engine Repair: an overview
Engine problems rarely fix themselves, and small symptoms — a leak, a noise, a rising temperature gauge — can become expensive if they are ignored. We diagnose engine faults carefully, explain what is wrong and what the options are, and only start work once you approve.
Problems we can help with
- Engine overheating
- Oil or coolant leaks
- Knocking, ticking or rattling noises
- Loss of power
- Blue or white exhaust smoke
- Engine difficult to start
- Timing belt or chain due for replacement
What we do
We start by confirming the symptom and inspecting the engine, using diagnostic equipment and physical checks such as pressure and leak tests where appropriate.
Typical engine work includes cooling-system repairs, gasket and oil-seal replacement, timing belt or chain replacement, engine mounts, belts and pulleys, and ignition and fuel-system repairs. Where a problem is more serious, we explain the findings and the alternatives so you can make an informed decision.

Engine Repair: frequently asked questions
My temperature gauge is rising. What should I do?
Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off the engine. Driving an overheating engine can cause serious damage. Do not open the radiator cap while it is hot. Contact us and we can advise on the next steps.
When should the timing belt be replaced?
Timing belts are replaced at an interval set by the manufacturer, given in distance or years. Some engines use a timing chain instead. Tell us your vehicle details and we will check what applies.
